Entering the big leagues

I can’t wait for High School. There is so much that I haven’t experienced and seen. Some of the things that I will see are full hallways, off campus lunch, and not having a homeroom classroom.

I am most likely going to Oakland Tech so I will see my fair share of people. The hallways get jammed, there is a line to go out the door and there are just a lot of people, some that you will know and a lot that you won’t. The classes are pretty full, almost all are at full capacity. All of the kids there are super nice and engage with you. When I went to shadow almost every other person was asking if I had transferred. They all ended up warming up to me fast and started hanging out with me. Overall there is a great environment.

I am super excited for off campus lunch. There are a bunch of really good restaurants and stores just around the corner. I can’t wait to have a burger from Habit for lunch. You only have 30 minutes but there is not much walking you have to do. You don’t even have to go somewhere to eat, a lot of times they have a meeting in the library for any academy. They usually provide lunch so you are covered for that day. As a freshman you will want to go to those meetings to see what academies you want to look into.

Before you look into these things you have to do a couple of things. One of the most important is the HSPT or high school placement test. I had taken a couple of classes to prep and they were all talking about how you need to be prepared and how challenging it would be. The test itself was surprisingly easy though. There was not much I had learned this year. The test times were also really good. I had plenty of time on everything so I could check over a few things.

Back to High School, I think that it is going to be weird not having a set classroom for half of my periods. The only problem with not having a set classroom is that you won’t know your teacher as much. Another thing is that your classrooms may be really far away from each other.

There are so many new kids that I will meet at Tech. I think it is great to have more than 300 kids to socialize with. All of the kids are really nice though so it won’t be too hard to make a load of friends. There are also a lot of things that I am going to see and do which will really change my outlook on the world and what is happening.

The last thing is how independent I am going to have to be. There is no more babying and missing work posted on the board. You are all on your own. I am really going to have to start taking a calendar and a planner to keep track of everything. That is going to be one of the hardest things for me to do because I get a little too distracted sometimes.

Overall I can’t wait for High School. I am going to meet a lot of great people and really set up my career for the rest of my life. I am planning on doing the engineering academy at Tech and hopefully being an architect.
