‘Twas the Last Day Before Christmas Break
‘Twas 12:29, and all through the school,
Not a student was behaved, or following the rules.
The excitement was real, as intense as can be,
For in 60 short seconds, they would finally be free.
They were festively dressed in green and red,
While visions of presents danced in their heads.
When out in the hall a noise came about,
‘Twas exactly 12:30 and the bell rang out.
Then as if from above a voice proclaimed,
Merry Christmas!, then called them by name:
On kinders, on first grade, on second and third,
On fourth grade, on fifth grade, go the way of the bird,
On sixth grade, on seventh grade, and eighth in the rear,
On every last student, get the heck out of here!
They threw open the doors and pushed their way past,
They tore down the hallway, faster than fast.
When what did us teachers find in their wake?
An empty classroom, a well-deserved break.
‘Twas now 12:31, no straggler left behind,
The opportunity had come for the teachers to unwind.
They shut down their laptops and erased the white board,
Tidied the cabinets and swept up the floor.
There’s nothing like quiet at the end of a day,
When all the kids have finally gone away.
We’ll take them back, though, don’t fear,
We’ll be ready...see you next year!
Happy Holidays!
