Books! Books! Books!

Greetings from the Book Fair.  Seeing the students round the corner, spot a book, dart to it, open it, and immediately get absorbed is a wonderful reminder that books are still relevant in this electronic, short attention span world.  This year there a several popular books:  the Elephant and Piggy series is a clear winner with the lower grades.  The middle grades are excited about the I Survived series and the many books about WWII. For the middle school there's a great selection of horror and mysteries.  I noticed a definite uptick yesterday in students walking through the hallway carrying a fun read with a index finger stuck inside to hold their place.

We are thrilled that the latest title of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series, The Getaway, was released nationally on the second day of our fair.  It was like Christmas when the box arrived yesterday evening! After dropping them off I walked through and asked a few students what they like best about the fair:
Eva P and Gabriella, gr 6: "browsing", "to grab a book and relax and read it"
Nolan, gr 3: "the sports books"
Effie, gr 1: "getting my favorite book"

I too love that feeling of "getting my favorite book".  Thanks to Mrs. Rogers and Ms. McManus and all of the wonderful parent volunteers for making it possible for the students to experience that feeling, one that will hopefully make them life long readers.
