I know, from a parent’s perspective, those Wednesday minimum days can really throw a wrench in the very, precariously balanced unicycle that is a family calendar. Please be assured, the time is spent making sure we, as a staff, have what we need to be the best we can be for your kids.
Every Wednesday minimum day meeting begins with a prayer led by staff members. We all enjoy our turn to put together a meaningful moment of contemplation and sharing. We connect as a staff and usually end up laughing and talking about the things that really matter to us, to our families, and to our students. This prayer time kicks off several hours of meetings and is a really nice way to focus the group on our mission. We then address agenda items that affect the whole school before breaking into smaller committees to do focused discussions and planning in areas of expertise.
In September, the plan was to meet in small groups focused on science curriculum and Seesaw technology for the classrooms. The beginning of the school year can feel very overwhelming. There are endless details that go into preparing a classroom, getting to know your students and building relationships that create a functional, mini world designed to meet the needs of many, diverse personalities. Teachers at Corpus Christi do not want to miss anything that can make the difference for their students while building this type of learning environment.
As we met for the first time this year, it seemed appropriate to talk about what we hope. For our students, for ourselves, for our community. We shared a video about hope and had a wonderful discussion about how we, as educators, can be hope for our students. We continued our meeting in committees, sharing knowledge, asking questions, learning tools and generally being students ourselves. It is our hope to never lose touch with what it means to be a learner and to confidently rely on the help of those around us. What is your hope?
