As Catholic Schools Week is upon us, we are encouraged to reflect on what it means to be a part of our school community… As teachers, many of us look forward to the holidays and our summers off; today, during these unprecedented times, we look forward to some normality, going back to school to see our students on a regular basis. But let us not forget what we are grateful for - access, health and safety of each and everyone of us, resources, and most of all… we are grateful for the passion God has put in our hearts in being a part of our students’ lives and their education. Please enjoy the beautiful poem below by one of our own, Sophia B in 6th grade. Appreciation like this, and more from our school families, is another reason we know, as your teachers and staff that this is what we were meant to do; we are teachers and we couldn’t be more proud to be yours.
THANK YOU, TEACHERS
You are so important in our lives
You educate us and help us thrive
You teach us everything we need
And inspire success in all subjects A-Z
All from ancient studies of our History,
To precise measures in Chemistry,
And accurate calculating in Math,
That is always useful in our life's path
And communicating together through Español,
And surely, we all excel our goals
We read and learn in the Library,
About hairy gophers and a midnight fairy
And you expand our knowledge with Social Studies,
And increase our sharpness when we work with buddies
We exercise to keep our bodies healthy in PE,
And it makes us hopeful that we can one day ski
You inspire us to put out our best effort in Literature,
And inform us of regions with special cultures
In ELA, you help us perfect our grammar,
And encourage us to perhaps be computer programmers
You teach us how wise people confirmed their life choices in Religion,
And how in the past, they didn’t use emails, but pigeons
You give us answers to Earth’s unsolved mysteries in Science,
And teach us of complex definitions like “compliance”
You teach us how to type at the speed of light,
And teach us about elaborate kilobytes
You teach us with joy how to code
And sometimes there’s a computer overload
We learn about astronomy
That’s (literally) above and beyond our economy
You teach us things that we simply could not ever imagine
That are infinite and there’s always room for expansion
You answer questions and quench our curiosity
When in Music, you help us execute the skill of magnificent virtuosity
There simply isn’t a word to describe how much you are appreciated
Because our minds became so indisputably elevated
You helped us gain courage and grit
And motivated us to never quit
You tell us to never give up and chase our dreams
Even if it involves tears cascading down our face in streams
You encouraged us to keep moving forward with strength and pride
And recover with resilience that resounds worldwide
You embolden us to prosper with stamina
Which makes us feel free, like we can touch the edge of a glorious nebula
And so, I’d like all teachers to gather anew,
So all students and I can express a valiant “Thank You!”
