Spelling Contract
Please complete one spelling activity each night (Monday through Wednesday). By the end of the week, you should have 3 different activities completed. Use all 16 words from each unit (including review and challenge words). Each activity should be written on a new sheet of paper. Be sure to have your name and activity name labeled at the top of each paper. All papers will be turned into the Spelling Basket each Friday. Please be sure to use a variety of activities each week!
Spelling Activities - choose 3 activities each week.
1. COMPUTER SPELLING:
type each word FIVE times using a computer.
2. ONSET/RIME:
The onset begins with the consonant and the rime is the part of the word that begins with the vowel.
Example: mix: m = onset, ix = rime; thick: th = onset, ick = rime
3. THREE TIMES EACH:
Write each word three times each.
4. RAINBOW WORDS:
Use markers or crayons. Neatly write a word with your favorite color. Trace over the word with a second color. Trace over the word one more time with a third color. Do this will all the spelling words.
5. TONGUE TWISTERS:
Write a silly sentence for each word where all or almost all the words start with the same letter as the spelling word. Underline the spelling word.
example: Tim took a trip to Tahiti.
6. ABC ORDER:
List your spelling words in alphabetical order by the first, second, and third letters.
7. SPELLING STORY:
Write a real or make believe story using all the spelling words. Underline each spelling word. Remember to put a title on your story.
8. CIRCLES AND BOXES:
Write each spelling word but leave space between the letters of the word. Use a blue and red marker or crayon. With the blue, circle the vowels and with the red, draw a box around the consonants.
9. WHATS MY MEANING:
Write each spelling word. Use a dictionary to find each words meaning. Write what each word means. Remember, some words have more than one meaning. You do not need to use a complete sentence.
10. PRACTICE TEST:
Have someone give you a practice test. Correct your work. If you miss a word write it three times each.
