Dear Parents,
Yesterday the Marine Mammal Center sent their Whale Bus to visit Corpus Christi! The students spent the afternoon with a marine biologist and learned about marine mammals of California. Students were able to touch and feel pelts from otters and seals, study skulls and bones from whales, and even view a Blue Whale eyeball in a jar!
On Tuesday we will attend a performance at the Oakland Symphony. Drivers should meet at 9:15 in the gym to coordinate car seats with Kindergarten. We will return by 12:15 in time for lunch at school. Students should wear their uniforms to school. Drivers will be given directions and money for parking when they arrive.

Next Thursday we will spend most of the school day at the Academy of Sciences. We will leave the school at 9:15 and return before 3:00. Please make sure your child has a paper bag lunch with disposable containers for Thursday. The Academy will probably be very crowded, so students need to wear their uniforms to help us keep track of them.

Please send in an empty plastic or glass jar with your child next Monday. Make sure it’s clean and the label has been removed. We will be using it to decorate and collect money to donate to a charity for Christmas. A normal peanut butter size jar would be fine. If it is glass, please pack it very carefully! If you find two jars, please send in both in case a student forgets one.
On Monday, November 24th, the sea creature research packet is due. Please make sure your child has access to books and the internet so they can collect information! I will only give Math homework next week so the children can spend their evenings working on the Sea Creature packet. If you have any questions, the information letter that was sent home yesterday is posted on the website, and you can always contact me if anything comes up!
We are doing lots of great extra-curricular things with sea creatures in class, but even the Academy of Sciences can’t compare with the variety of sea creatures at the Monterey Bay Aquarium. Over the next couple of weeks, if your family can make a trip down to Monterrey, it would be wonderful support for your child’s sea creature report. Not only is it a great experience, but the docents there are very knowledgeable and might be able to help answer tough questions about that sea creature!
The Book Faire is opening up this Sunday. A preview pamphlet is going home today to show you some of the books that will be available, but all purchases need to be made at the school.
The canned food drive starts Monday. Don’t forget!
Sincerely,
Marea Palmer-Loh
